Marsala Wine Experience, Erice And Salt Flats Coast - Private Tour
Exclusive Private Tour with a Local Guide Sicily has more vineyards than any other Italian regions competing for first place as the largest wine producer. The island is renowned for the many outstanding wines, some of them produced in the wine capital of Sicily, the city of Marsala, which gives the name to the world-famous wine.

The nearby Salt Pans with its characteristic old windmills, are inside a beautiful area protected by the WWF, right on the coast between Trapani and Marsala. The salt produced in this area is part of Slow Food Italian Presidia. Erice, with its unique location, just about 2500 feet above sea level, it overlooks nearby Trapani and the salt flats, and is surrounded by a lush park and hilltop castles, which offer charming old stone streets to stroll and several medieval churches to investigate.

A version of a very refined and tasty dish of Arab heritage. The couscous is made from grains of durum wheat semolina steamed in a broth of fish and shellfish that uses a bit ‘ of all the varieties of the Mediterranean. You definitely will find it in the cities of Marsala and Trapani.

More Magical Places to Visit are:

Island of Mozia – Stroll the archaeological on the road of the Phoenicians

Within walking distance from the mainland, surrounded by shallow water and easily defendable, Mozia is one of the Phoenician colonies of strategic importance for trade routes in the Mediterranean. In 397 BC Mozia set on fire by the Greeks and vanishes from history. H. Schliemann, the archaeologist of Troy, arrives there without recognizing it. In 1913 the G. Whitaker found during his excavations. Today Mozia offers a unique archaeological tour immersed in the enchanting Natural Reserve of Stagnone. Sports & nature

The Stagnone Lagoon is just a paradise for kite surfers and everybody who love sports, basic and advanced courses of kiting in Sicily, near Trapani airport and natural reserve Lo Stagnone Marsala, between wind mills and archaeological finds of Mozia island – kite rent, kite shipping, holiday packages for the clients of the school. The road from Trapani to Marsala skirts round the edge of the lagoon and the island of Mozia (see MOZIA) providing fine views of the local saltworks: panels of mirror-like water, held by thin strips of earth, synchronise to form an irregular and multicoloured scene. In places, the profile of a windmill may be discerned, a reminder of times past when they provided the main means of pumping the water and grinding the salt. The sight is even more striking in summer when the salt is ready to be collected: then, the pinkish hues of the concentrated saline contained in the outer pans vie with those towards the centre of a deeper colour, while the innermost, now dry, sparkle in the sunshine. Since 1984, Sicily’s largest lagoon (2000 ha) has been designated a nature reserve of special interest – Riserva Naturale Orientata. This area extends into the sea, and includes the section of coastline between Punta Alga and Capo San Teodoro. The water here is shallow and very salty, the ideal conditions for saltworks to be set up all along the coast and on Isola Longa, where it soon became the main industry; many of these have since dwindled into disuse.

Nightlife info

Drinking & Nightlife
 Drinking & Nightlife
As one of Sicily's viticultural capitals, Marsala is naturally teeming with enoteche (wine bars), most of them concentrated near Via XI Maggio in the historic centre. Marsala. It is the perfect place where to spend a fun night out with your family. During summer, it is open everyday and host plenty of theme nights and events, such as the country and Latino night.

Culture and history info

Other notable towns along north-eastern coast include Marsala, the island’s wine producing capital. There is, of course, good wine to be had. Also the landing point for Garibaldi’s 1000 men. So it seeps in history as much as it does amber nectar. The renaissance architecture is simply breath-taking. Marsala's inhabitants are very proud of their town's long history. As in most of the Sicilian towns they were all here: Cathaginians, Romans, Arabs, Normans, Vandals. It were the Arabs who turned the city once again into a trade centre and thriving port. Marsala is a very old city, whose foundation dates back approximately to 397 BC. Full of history and culture, it is possible to visit museums and remains that tell centuries of history, which goes from Magna Graecia to the landing of Garibaldi.
